Adapting to pre-school curriculums: Insects & Bugs and Community Helpers

One of my venues for music therapy is at Step By Step Edu-Play http://stepbystepeduplay.com and here, one of my roles is to design interventions that coincide with the month’s curriculum. You can adapt any song that your kiddos already know to educate further about that topic! Here are some examples…

Curriculum: Insects & Bugs

Song: Five Green and Speckled Frogs

Adaptation: Choose various bugs that frogs could eat with laminated picture cards to provide visual examples

 

Curriculum: Community Helpers

Song: The Wheels on the Bus

Adaptation: Substitute the lyrics, “the wheels on the bus” to “the wheels on the firetruck/police car/ambulance”, or “the stethoscope on the doctor”, or “the teacher in the classroom”, etc.

Adapting to Pre-School Curriculum: The 5 Senses

Adapting interventions can be tricky. Lots of ideas to come, but here’s my first.

Let’s take “I Can Sing A Rainbow” for instance. (If you don’t know the song, here’s a link to me singing it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gLop3ox3aMk )

The following are adapted words if you’re working with pre-school/elementary age learning the 5 senses.

We touch and smell and hear and see, we like to taste our food.

Theses are our senses, our senses, our five senses.

Touch/feel with your hands, smell with your nose, and listen and hear with your ears.

See with your eyes, look around, taste with your tongue.
